Born through Promise

Galatians 4:21-31

I.  Looking back at Genesis, Abraham and Sarah made a decision in their own understanding (according to the flesh).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  vs. 22-23, Gen. 16:1-4

    A.  This represents us relying on our own “way” to God.                                            vs. 24-25

    B.  The result of this path is disobedience and destruction.                                     vs. 29-30

 

II.  God miraculously brought about Isaac’s birth, the child of promise.                      vs. 23, 26

    A.  When we come to God through His perfect plan, we too are children of promise. vs. 28, 31

    B.  As one born through promise, we should expect persecution.                                   vs. 29

 

III.  As with Abraham, God works in spite of our sin. 

    A.  He is a covenant-keeping God.                                            Gen. 12:1-3, 15:1-6; Neh. 1:5-11

    B.  We have a testimony to share as an example to others.                               I Cor. 15:9-11 

 

In what areas of my life am I tempted to make my decisions in my own understanding?
